description | Disclosed are a CCTV system and a vehicle number recognition method thereof. According to the present invention, the CCTV system can recognize a vehicle number by binarizing a brightness value of pixels belonging to a vehicle number area of a vehicle image to extract the number belonging to the foreground from the background. At this time, a threshold value which is a reference of a vehicle number binarization is based on a brightness value distribution chart of the pixels obtained by dividing each row of the pixels, so as to minimize the influence of a shade, even if a vehicle license plate is shaded, and to increase a recognition rate of the vehicle number.
