The unmanned apparatus for renting and returning a transport means comprises: a bicycle stand (3) on which a plurality of bicycles are mounted (2); a plurality of stand terminals (5) installed on one end of the bicycle stand (2) and connected to bicycle cables (4) of returned bicycles (2); a locking device (30) which is installed on the stand terminals (5), and locks and unlocks the bicycle cables (4); a repeater (8) to allow the stand terminals (5) and a bicycle management server (6) to transceive data; a bicycle terminal (9) installed on the bicycle (2); a locking device (30a) which is installed on the bicycle terminal (5), and locks or unlocks a connection cable (4a) of a different bicycle; and a portable terminal (10) to recognize the bicycle terminal (9) to rent and return the bicycle. 본 발명은 휴대단말 등을 이용하여 자전거 등의 운송수단 대여와 반납을 무인으로 간편하게 수행할 수 있도록 하되, 자전거에 설치되는 단말과 다른 자전거에 설치되는 단말 끼리 케스케이드(Cascade) 방식으로 연결(접속)되도록 함으로써 여러 대의 자전거를 동시 보관할 수 있으며, 또한 자전거 간의 보간 간격이 좁아져 자전거 보관소의 공간확보가 용이하도록 한 운송수단 무인(無人) 대여 및 반납 방법과 그 장치에 관한 것이다.
