MENU SELECTING SYSTEM FOR DISPLAY DEVICE

PURPOSE:To attain a processing without knowing the names of files and directories by displaying successively the pictographs of office machines having the hierarchical relation on a display device and selecting a desired menu. CONSTITUTION:The pictographs showing the office machines are allocated to the hierarchy of each data controlled in a tree structure. Then the correspondence is secured between the data hierarchy and the hierarchical relation of office machines in a business work environment. Thus the data hierarchy is turned into a model and stored in a memory device 4. Then a window on a CRT is opened and a piece of hierarchy data of the corresponding data is displayed within the opened window in the form of pictographs. In such a way, an operator traces the tree structure of data with operations given to the pictographs displayed on a screen and can give an access to the desired data.
