CONSTITUTION:A monolithic catalytic carrier is made by forming a catalyst depositing layer on the surface of base material for the monolithic catalyst. After immersing this monolithic catalytic carrier into an aq. soln. contg. the catalytic components in several times repeatedly so that one end of the carrier is always directed upward and the other end is always directed downward, it is dried and calcined to mold the monolithic catalyst. As the catalyst depositing layer, the slurry contg. the depositing components such as alumina is stuck on the surface of base material for the monolithic catalyst and it is dried and calcined to obtain 10-250mum layer thickness. The obtained monolithic catalyst can be formed so that the deposite quantity of catalyst is small in the inflow side of exhaust gas and large in the outflow side.
