TRACKLESS SELF-TRAVELING CARRIAGE FOR WELDING

PURPOSE:To simplify a profiling mechanism for horizontal fillet welding by attaching a locking mechanism to guide arms and disposing a spring which locks the arms by fitting into a recess and a solenoid which unlocks the arms by attracting the same. CONSTITUTION:Guide arms 25, 25' are supported turnably to a vehicle body 21 by a shaft 61 and rollers 25A are attached to the top end thereof. A spring 62 is provided between the shaft 61 and the guide arms which are made resettable by said spring. A recess 63 is provided to each end of the arms 25, 25' beyond the shaft 61 and the top end of a detaining piece 64 driven by a solenoid 65 fits into the recess 63 when the carriage travels linearly to profile the weld line. The guide arms are thus locked. The guide arms are freed if the solenoid 65 is energized to retract the piece 64 against the spring 66 and to disengage the top end of said piece from the recess 63. Then the guide arms rotate freely around the shaft 61.
