CONSTITUTION:Silica-alumina containing 2-35wt% of silica or silica-alumina- containing substance is used as a carrier and this carrier is immersed in a solution of an ammine complex of a metal belonging to the Group VIII of the Periodic Table such as nickel or cobalt to support 0.5-20wt% of said metal by the carrier as oxide. Subsequently, said carrier is dried in air and baked while the baked carrier is immersed in a solution of a soluble salt of a metal belonging to the Group VIB of the Periodic Table such as molybdenum or tungsten to allow the carrier to support 5-30wt% of said metal as oxide.
