description PURPOSE:To reduce fuel consumption through improvement of charging efficiency, by a method wherein, in an internal combustion engine having two suction valve ports and one exhaust valve port, the opening timings of two suction valves are caused to differ from each other. CONSTITUTION:A pair of first and second suction valve ports 91 and 92 are formed on a ceiling slope 71 of a combustion chamber, and one exhaust valve port 10 is provided on other ceiling slope 72. The electrode of an ignition plug 11 is disposed on the opposite side to the second suction valve port 92. During the intake stroke of an engine, fuel-air mixture flows in a combustion chamber 6 from the second suction valve port 92 to produce swirl. Thereafter, fuel-air mixture flows in the combustion chamber also from the first suction valve port 91 to uniformize the air-fuel ratio of the fuel-air mixture. This provides high- output performance and permits reduction of fuel consumption.
