description PURPOSE:To eliminate the need to write the 2nd information on the 1st information for recording and at the same time to eliminate the generation of a blank track, by recording a pilot signal of the same frequency as the pilot signal recorded on a track preceding the final track on the next track, and at the same time setting the recording level of the pilot signal of a prescribed track at a value higher than other pilot signals. CONSTITUTION:A video signal recorder is provided with a tracking control part 30, a joint track discriminating part 31 and a recording level switching part 32. The part 32 contains an attenuating circuit 43 consisting of series resistances 41 and 42. The output of the circuit 43 is transmitted via a reproducing/amplifying circuit 44 in the form of a record signal S23 to be applied to a video head together with a chrominance signal SC and a luminance signal SY. A short-circuit switch circuit 45 is connected in parallel to the resistance 42 of the circuit 43. An ON control signal S24 is supplied from a switch circuit 17 to turn on the circuit 45 when a head 6 scans tracks 46B and 46A preceding and following the final track 46 in a section W1 where the 1st picture information is recorded in a composite photography mode. Thus it is possible to raise up the recording level by about +6[dB], for example, for the pilot signal which is recorded on the track 46.
