The difference in tension is put into a controller 6 which compares the difference with a set difference 8 in tension and inputs a control signal to a tension control device 7 so as to eliminate the deviation. The revolutions of bridle rolls 9-1, 9-2 on the inlet and outlet sides of the furnace are controlled by said device. The difference between the set tension on the inlet side of the furnace and actual tension 11 is compared and the motor 13 of the roll 9-1 is controlled by a speed controller 12. The formation of the surface flaw on a strip is eliminated by such mechanism.
