SIMULTANEOUS WHOLE FACE AND PARTIAL FLAW REMOVING DEVICE OF BILLET SURFACE

PURPOSE:To remove surface flaws on two faces or four faces of a villet simultaneously in a surface flaw removing device using a plasma arc for billets carried by a V-shaped rolls, by holding plural plasma arc torches in a specific manner to the billet. CONSTITUTION:Surface flaws are detected by an automatic flaw detector while a square billet 1 is carried in the direction (a) by V-shaped rolls. Flaw information obtained by a computer 4 is received by a flaw removing device 5 and surface flaws are removed by utilizing a plasma arc. Plasma torches 7, 9 are placed in correspondence to each face 6 and each corner 8, and supported through follow-up mechanisms. The torch 7 is held perpendicular to the direction of width of a face 6 slanted at 45 deg., and the torch 9 is held perpendicular to the center of part 8, and both torches are held with inclination of 15-45 deg. from the vertical axis. By this way, partially existing surface flaws can be partially removed surely over two faces or four faces of the billet 1 with narrowed scarfing groove width.
