description PURPOSE:To obtain a battery forming mold having excellent wear resistance and a long life by applying chromium electroplating on the surface of a mold base material, and immersing it into a molten sodium borate anhydride bath (Na2B4 O7), then forming boride electrochemically. CONSTITUTION:After degreasing tool steel serving as a mold base material by usual procedure, it is immersed into a solution for chromium plating such as a Sargent bath to form chromium plating. 8mum or thicker chromium plating layer is formed on the surface of the base material by adjusting plating time. After washing and drying sufficiently, the mold is immersed into a molten Na2B4O7 bath, and treated electrolytically at about 900 deg.C using platinum as an anode to form a hard layer of boride. When about 10mum thick hard layer is formed, a current intensity of 10A/dm , and a electrolytic time of about one hour are preferable, as the electrolytic conditions.
