While the pattern 1 is rotated in the cell 2, electric current is supplied between the pattern 1 as cathode and anodes 3, 3 to allow the Ni coating layer to form on the surface of the pattern 1 in the plating soln. which is admitted 5 into the cell. Copper (alloy) is electroformed on said Ni coating layer in the plating soln. contg. a copper salt and the pattern 1 is dissolved away in, for example, an aq. soln. of NaOH. As a result, the casting wheel having heat- and abrasion resistant Ni (alloy) coating layer on the surface contacting directly with molten steel is produced by electroforming easily with good accuracy.
