MEDIUM FOR TISSUE CULTURE

PURPOSE:To provide an easily available, low cost medium for tissue culture, having excellent proliferation capability, by using a natural substance obtained from placenta as a component. CONSTITUTION:The tissue or the cell separated from an organism is cultured in a tissue culture medium containing a component obtained from placenta (mainly the extract of human placenta or its treated liquid). The medium containing the placenta component exhibits higher proliferation capability for the myeloma fusion cells compared with the conventional medium containing bovine fetus serum. In contrast with the bovine fetus serum requiring 10% concentration in the medium, the juice prepared by pressing the placenta has higher proliferation activity even at a concentration of 2.5%. The medium containing the supernatant liquid of the juice obtained by the centrifugal separation has further increased proliferation capability, and its superiority to the bovine fetus serum is apparent.
