description PURPOSE:To obtain an extremely thick steel plate to be used for making boiler which is excellent in weldability and high in toughness, by performing water hardening and tempering at a specific temperatures on the steel plate containing alloy elements, such as C, etc., in a specific range. CONSTITUTION:A steel plate having a thickness of approx. >=75mm. is manufactured from a steel composed of 0.11-0.13wt% C, 0.02-0.40% Si, 1.00-1.50% Mn, 0.10-30% Cu, 0.40-0.65% Ni, 0.49-0.65% Cr, 0.20-0.28% Mo, 0.04-0.07% V, 0.005-0.060% Al, and the rest of unavoidable impurities and Fe. This steel plate is water hardened from a temperature higher than the Ac3 point and then tempered at a temperature of >=660 deg.C. When this method is applied, an extremely thick steel plate to be used for making boiler which is low in the sensibility for welding crack and meets required mechanical characteristics are obtained.
