description PURPOSE:To cool an end gas zone and vaporize injected fuel thus prevent knocking action, by equipping an injector for fuel injection to the rear side of an intake valve and injecting fuel toward the end gas zone in a cylinder at the intake stroke of the cylinder. CONSTITUTION:An intake valve 2 and exhaust valve 3 are provided in the upper part of a combustion chamber 7, and if a spark plug 4 is mounted in the vicinity of the exhaust valve 3, an end gas zone 5 is formed in the vicinity of the intake valve 2 separated farthest from the spark plug 4. Here an injector 1 for fuel injection is equipped to the rear side of the intake valve 2 to locate its jet port to the direction toward the above described zone 5. In this way, at the time of an intake stroke, a fine fuel particle 6 is injected to the end gas zone 5 from the injector 1 to both cool said zone 5 and vaporize the fuel particle 6, thus prevent knocking action. Further a swirl 8 is produced by the above described injection fuel 6 to increase combustion efficiency.
