description PURPOSE:To separate oil contents which are of high concns. and high viscosities or are emulsified efficiently by passing oil-contg. water alternately forward and backward through specific grain coasening elements having oil resistant and oil repulsing functions and water permeating and absorbing functions of water insoluble hydrous gel layers. CONSTITUTION:The kinds and forming means of water insoluble hydrous gel layers extend over a wide range without any particular limitation. For example, catalysts such as sodium persulfate are added to aq. mixed solns. of acrylic amide, etc. and methylene bisacrylic amide, etc., and after these are stuck on porous sheets of fibers, etc., they are heated to dry and to cause polycondensation, whereby the water insoluble gel layers are obtained. Such layers are treated with fluorine compounds and the like to improve functions of oil resistance, oil repulsion, etc. Elements 1 having the porous blank materials 24 formed with said layers are incorporated into grain coasening devices 2, and when oil-contg. water is permeated therethrough, the oil contents coarse oil particles that can float by themselves. The oil floating in the upper part is extracted with a pump 5. Since the elements 1 are clogged with extraneous materials, the oil- contg. water is flowed alternately in the directions of the solid line arrow and dotted line arrow.
