PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automate picture adjustment of a video output signal according to the contents of video reproducing software by controlling the luminance signal of video to be reproduced when a video software discriminating part judges the video reproducing software to be specific video software. SOLUTION: An AV decoder 5 decodes various kinds of video managing information for controlling the state of a DVD video player to transfer video managing information to a CPU 10. When there is a sub-picture stream in decoded information, then the aspect ratio of a main video is 16:9, when there is a sub-picture stream in decoded information and the aspect ratio of the main video is 16:9 at the same time, or when there is a sub picture stream or the aspect ratio of the main video is 16:9, the information is discriminated to be a cinema title disk, and the CPU 10 controls a picture adjusting circuit 7 based on the above information. The circuit 7 performs picture adjustment by digital gamma correction so that the luminance signal of video to be reproduced is controlled.
