description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance brightness of a plasma display panel and prolong its service life. SOLUTION: In glass substrates 3 and 5 opposedly disposed with a predetermined gas discharge space provided there between through partition walls 6, a conventional phosphor layer 7 is provided on the glass substrate 5, and an up-conversion phosphor layer 8 is formed on the glass substrate 3. When a discharge is induced by the application of a high voltage to discharge electrodes 1, 2, in vacuum ultraviolet rays and infrared rays induced by the discharge, the infrared rays are converted into visible light rays by the up-conversion layer 8 and the vacuum ultraviolet rays are converted into visible light rays by the conventional phosphor layer 7.
