description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable adhesion of a large amount of organisms at a high concentration and to downscale a drainage treatment apparatus itself by a process in which when living drainage and water of rivers, lakes, and marshes are treated chemically, an organism fixing carrier is constituted by using fine fibers of specific gravity and tensile modulus of elasticity within specified ranges. SOLUTION: A drainage treatment apparatus 10 is composed chiefly of a drainage treatment tank main body 1, a sewage treatment tank 4, a diffuser 7, an aerator 8, a fibrous filter medium 5 as an organism fixing carrier, and a filter medium supporting material 6. The upper end of the filter medium 5 is fixed to the filter medium supporting material 6 to suspend the medium 5 from the material 6. The carrier 5 is formed from fibers the tensile modulus of elasticity of which is 200 GPa or below and the filament diameter of which is 5-15 μm or fibers the tensile modulus of elasticity of which is 50-200 GPa, the specific gravity of which is 1.0-2.6 g/cm , and filament diameter of which is 5-15 μm. Polyimide fibers, silicon carbide fibers, polyvinyl alcohol fibers, glass fibers, and others are used as the fibers.
