description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the restriction of material of which a guide member is made and to reduce cost by pressuring both end sides of the guide member on a slit glass without applying bending moment in an image reader for reading the image of an original while the original is allowed to pass on a short slit glass. SOLUTION: A copying machine equipped with a reading means, such as an exposure lamp and a mirror, for reading the image from the passing original through the short slit glass 2 and a roller group for passing or carrying the original on the slit glass 2 is provided with a reflection guide plate 31 made of resin and demarcating a paper passing path to guide the original between a lowermost surface and the plate 31 by making ribs 51 formed on both end sides abut on the slit glass 2 and also a leaf spring 54 pressuring the plate 31 in the direction of the slit glass 2 from the just above side of the rib 51.
