description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a thermocouple to be used several times by making a paper tube as an outer tube of the thermocouple hard to burn, decrease a total cost, and widen a depth allowance range when the thermocouple is soaked in a molten metal, by coating a connection point between an electrode terminal and an electrode terminal contact with a heatproof layer. SOLUTION: In the thermocouple, a thermocouple chip 2 having a thermocouple wire 5 and electrode terminals 10, 10 connected to the thermocouple wire 5 are inserted at one opening end of an outer tube 1 of a paper tube with both ends opened, and a thermocouple plug 3 having lead wires 15, 15 and electrode terminal contact points 14, 14 is inserted at the other opening end of the outer tube 1. The electrode terminals 10, 10 of the thermocouple chip 2 are electrically connected to the electrode terminal contact points 14, 14 of the thermocouple plug 3 inside the outer tube 1. A heatproof layer 7 is formed at an outer circumferential face of the outer tube by winding a ceramic fiber sheet to cover connection points between the electrode terminals and electrode terminal contact points and enclose a base end part of the thermocouple wire 5. A ceramic short fiber 20 is filled to cover a leading end face of the thermocouple chip 2.
