Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lessen the excitation energy of excited nitrogen chemical seeds and efficiently lower the NOX by supplying moderating chemical seeds characterized by moderating energy and reacting excited nitrogen chemical seeds in a waste gas with the moderating chemical seeds. SOLUTION: An exhaust gas from an engine contains strongly oxidative free radicals such as hydroxyl radical (OH) and partly oxidized hydrocarbon radicals together with strongly oxidized oxidative substance with high reactivity such as ozone. When such an exhaust gas is passed through a corona discharge reaction container, H radical, OH radical, O3 are produced and strongly oxidizing environment is caused in the exhaust gas. Moreover, during combustion in an engine and during high voltage corona discharge in a corona discharge reaction chamber, nitrogen chemical seeds are produced due to the energy supplied to gas molecules. The excitation energy of the nitrogen chemical seeds are therefore lowered and NOX is decomposed into diatomic nitrogen (N2 ) and diatomic oxygen (O2 ) to remove NOX by adding a moderating chemical seed such as triatomic nitrogen (N3 ). |
