PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry an original cassette stably with high accuracy, without incurring the large sized image reader and high manufacture cost. SOLUTION: The device is provided with a cassette-positioning carrying device 34 to position an original cassette 12 onto an original platen 32 and an original platen carrying system 36 to carry the positioned original platen 32 in the sub-scanning direction. With a loading device 164 of the cassette positioning device 34 to carry the original cassette 12 to the original platen 32, a side face support section 116, a side face support section 166 provided to the original platen 32 to roll-contact with the side face of the original cassette 12, and a press section 170 to press the tail end of the original cassette 12 in the carrying direction to but the front end of the original cassette 12 in the carrying direction onto a stopper 168 are provided to the original platen 32.
