SOLUTION: In a device formed in such a constitution that a transmission gear ratio is changed by a shift control means 115 following with the operation operating means 111, 112 when an automatic transmission 12 is changed from an automatic shift mode to a manual shift mode, a transmission gear ratio change rate changing means 116 is arranged to reduce the change rate of the transmission gear ratio when the transmission 12 is shifted down smaller than the change rate of the transmission gear ratio when the transmission 12 is shifted up. The change rate of the transmission gear rate is reduced relatively at the time of shift-down, the transmission gear ratio is switched to an increasing side by shift-down operation slightly, and the condition of an engine brake is regulated delicately. On the other hand, the change rate of the transmission gear ratio is increased relatively at the time of shift-up, and the reducing change of the transmission gear ratio accompanying shift operation is made to feel to a driver.
