SOLUTION: This polyether is produced by polymerizing a halophenol and/or a substantially equimolar mixture of a dihydric phenol and a dihalogenobenzenoid compd. (provided the halogen atoms or atom of the dihalogenobenzenoid compd. or the halophenol have or has been activated by -SO2 - or -CO- bonded to the o- or p-position thereof) in a highly polar org. solvent in the presence of a carbonate and/or a bicarbonate of an alkali metal in an equivalent ratio of the alkali metal to the phenolic hydroxyl group present of 1 or higher. In the above process, also phosphinic acid is present in an amt. of 0.01-0.06% based on the polyether to be obtd. in the polymn. system, thus giving a lowly colored arom. polyether. |
