In this case, each computer has various tables such as a CPU load monitor table 32a for monitoring the CPU load of the computer and a network load monitor table 31a for monitoring the network load from the load monitor device and is equipped with an automatic protocol selecting device 30a which selects the best communication protocol under selection conditions of a user-settable selection condition table 36a according to load information from those tables. Consequently, there is no need to pay attention to applications and even when computers in the network increase in number, network load problems are prevented.
