description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a wash-resistant stretch-back processing of a knit fabric by treating a knit fabric knit at a relatively low cover factor with an alkali under a condition to keep the length and relax in lateral direction and treating the treated fabric with a softening agent. SOLUTION: A knit fabric produced by the circular rib knitting with a 40s combed 100% cotton yarn at a cover factor of 0.55-0.70 is passed through an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide having a concentration of 10-30%, treated at 5-60 deg.C under constant length and unstrained width condition, bleached with sodium chlorite and hydrogen peroxide, washed with hot water and dyed to a specified color. The dyed fabric is treated with a softening agent selected from anionic, nonionic and cationic agents, dried and calendered to complete the stretch-back processing.
