description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate an output difference between 1st and 2nd magnetic heads and to constitute a system without requiring complicated signal processing by making the 1st magnetic head and the 2nd magnetic head different in magnetic head width from each other. SOLUTION: Magnetic gaps GA and GB of the 1st magnetic head 1a and the 2nd magnetic head 1b respectively are given different directional azimuths βfrom each other to the head traveling direction. Then, in this constitution, particularly, a magnetic gap width GWA of the 1st magnetic head 1a and a magnetic gap width GWB of the 2nd magnetic head 1b are different from each other. That is, GWB>GWA. In this case, GWB>GWA is set in order that a vertical component of the gap width GWA to the magnetic tape traveling direction and a vertical component of the gap width GWB to the magnetic tape traveling direction should approach each other, or preferably should be equalized. Consequently, the output difference between the two channels can be eliminated, thus unnecessitating the output adjustment by signal processing.
