SOLUTION: Non-uniformity of a rotational motion of a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine is formed in a first signal (ts (n)), in a method for detecting a combustion misfire operated to be based on the first signal, a second signal (ψ (n)) is generated, the second signal has periodicity, this periodic interval corresponds to a periodic interval between working cycles of the internal combustion engine or corresponds to this periodic interval divided by an integer, this second signal has a fixed phase relation relating to the rotational motion of the crankshaft. This second signal is modulated by a signal with the first signal as the base and filtered, a third signal (q (n)), formed by modulation and filtering, is used for detecting of the combustion misfire and specifying of the cylinder concerned.
