description PURPOSE: To obtain a continuous casting method for producing a cast slab having good surface characteristic in many kinds of metals by impressing AC current applied with stepped intensities to an electromagnetic coil arranged to the same axis with a mold around the mold. CONSTITUTION: While induction-heating molten metal 8 in a water-cooling vessel 2 formed with electrically conductive segments by an induction-heating coil 3, this molten metal is held to the molten-state. Thereafter, this molten metal 8 is solidified by using the mold 4 connected with the lower side of the water- cooling vessel 2 and the obtd. cast slab is continuously drawn out. At this time, the electromagnetic force is given to the molten metal 8 in the mold 4 by an intermittent electromagnetic force impressing coil 5 arranged so as to surround the outer periphery of the mold and the lubrication is improved by reducing the friction resistance between a solidified shell 7 and the mold 4. Then, in the AC current impressed to the intermittent electromagnetic force impressing coil 5 on the outer periphery of the mold, the stepped intensities are periodically given in this amplitude.
