description PURPOSE: To compensate the manufacturing misalingment tolerance between a recording element and a reproducing element and to compensate the misalingment error between the recording element and the reproducing element with respect to a track due to the inclination of a slider at the time of performing a positioning by using a rotary actuator. CONSTITUTION: Address information used exclusively for recording operations are provided in ID blocks 32 and address information used exclusively for reproducing operations are provided togather with user data in data blocks 33. ID blocks are arranged to be shifted in a direction vertical to tracks from data blocks by the amount corresponding to the distance of the misalignment between the recording element and the reproducing element in a composite head. Since a correct position is performed by obtaining address information with sufficient readout probability at the time of recording and reproducing operations, the design of a magnetic disk device increased in track density is facilitated and the magnetic disk device is made high in performance.
