SALICYLIC ACID-BASED BACTERICIDAL AND FUNGICIDAL AGENT AND METHOD FOR IMPARTING BACTERICIDAL AND FUNGICIDAL ACTIVITY USING THE AGENT

PURPOSE: To obtain a bactericidal and fungicidal agent having excellent heat-resistance, water resistance, flexibility, oxidation stability and persistency by using a specific salicylic acid derivative singly or in combination with a 2-(4-thiazolyl)-benzimidazole derivative. CONSTITUTION: This antibacterial and antifungal agent is produced by using a salicylic acid derivative of formula I [Z is H or M/i (M is an i-valent metal; (i) is an integer); (m) is 0-10; (n) is 1 or 2; R1 and R2 are each H or methyl; R3 is H, a 1-4C alkyl or a halogen[ as an active component. The salicylic acid derivative may be used in combination with a 2-(4-thiazoline)-benzimidazole derivative of formula II (R4 and R5 are each H or a 1-4C alkyl). The amount of the compound of formula II is preferably 0.01-10wt.% based on the salicylic acid derivative. Antibacterial and antifungal property can be imparted to a substrate by including 0.001-5 wt.% of the salicylic acid-based bactericidal and fungicidal agent to a substrate. The antibacterial and antifungal agent can be used for producing the interior and exterior materials of building, clothes, molding materials, etc., having antibacterial and antifungal property by including the agent in a substrate such as resin coating material, fiber, nonwoven fabric, paper or building material.
