CONSTITUTION: Iron raw material containing iron oxide as the main component and carbonaceous material are added in a converter type metal refining furnace, and while supplying oxidizing gas, the smelting reduction to the iron oxide is executed under condition, in which the slag exists at 30-70wt.% to the molten iron at the time of being the max. quantity, to produce the pig iron containing >=3% carbon. Then, the produced slag is discharged at >=50% and stored in a separated vessel. The pig iron is decarburized by supplying the oxidizing gas in the same refining furnace. After tapping the produced molten iron, the stored slag is re-charged into the refining furnace at 50-80wt.%, and the smelting reduction is repeated by supplying the oxidizing gas while charging the iron raw material and the carbonaceous material. By this method, the molten steel can efficiently be produced by using fossil fuel and the iron oxide of ore, etc., or steel scrap.
