PYRAZOLE-BASED THIAZOLIDINES

PURPOSE: To obtain pyrazole-based thiazolidines having hypoglycemic actions and antiglycation actions useful for preventing and treating diabetes and complications thereof. CONSTITUTION: The compounds of formula I (X is S or O; X is S, NH, etc.; Y is CR R ; R is a 1-10C alkyl, etc.; R , R and R are each independently H, a 1-7C alkyl, etc.; R is H or carboxymethyl; R and R are each H, a 1-7C alkyl, etc.), e.g. 5-((5-(2-hydroxy-2-phenylethoxy)-1-methyl-3-pyrazolyl)methylidene) thiazoline-2,4-dione. The compound of formula I is obtained by carrying out the dehydrating condensation of a compound of formula II, e.g. 5-(2-hydroxy-2- phenylethoxy)-1-methylpyrazole-3-carbaldehyde with a compound of formula III, e.g. ethyl 1-methyl-5-phenacyloxy-3-pyrazolecarboxylate in the presence of a base such as dimethylamine or an acid in an organic solvent.
