DAMPING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To damp the horizontal displacement of a weight through a damping mechanism by insertedly providing the damping mechanism between the lower end of a stopper member which is provided on the lower face of the weight and extended downward and a floor surface. CONSTITUTION:An elastic supporting body 4 formed by laminating a steel plate 4a and an elastic body 4b is fixed onto the floor surface 3 of a building 2. A weight 5 is mounted on the elastic supporting body 4. A base block 9 is fixed onto the floor surface 3 below the central part of the weight 5. A stopper member 11 extending downward is provided on the lower face of the weight 5 so as to oppose the side of the base block 9 at a constant space. One or more damping mechanisms A for the horizontal displacement of the weight 5 are insertedly provided between the lower face of the stopper member 11 and the floor surface 3. At the time of strong wind and an earthquake, the vibration of the building 2 and the weight 5 is detected by a sensor, and the rotation of a driving motor 8 is therefore is controlled to displace the weight 5 in the direction of X for damping the vibration of the building 2 in the direction of X. In addition, the weight 5 acts on the vibration of the building 2 in the direction of Y, so to speak, similarly as in the case of TMD to negate the vibration of the building 2 in the direction of Y.
