description PURPOSE:To provide a process for producing a fluorescent material or an optical crystal in increased production efficiency with little restriction on the shape and size of the fluorescent material and optical crystal to be produced. CONSTITUTION:A raw material ponder 6 prepared by adding thallium iodide to cesium iodide is put into a lower mold 3 placed in a partitioned chamber 2 and dried by heating at 200 deg.C while evacuating the chamber 2 through a suction port 5 to a vacuum of about 10 Torr to eliminate the water from the raw material powder 6, etc. The raw material powder is heated at 600 deg.C keeping the evacuated state and pressed between the lower mold 3 and an upper mold 4 under a pressure of 1X10 Kgf/m . The temperature and pressure are maintained for 3hr to form the raw material powder 6 into a molded fluorescent material.
