Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To automatically optimize the reproducing characteristic of a VTR without taking labor and time. CONSTITUTION:An information signal generating block 11 for outputting an information signal for recording in a magnetic tape 13 in addition to a video signal is provided, and the information signal is recorded in an overlapping part on the magnetic tape at the generating timing of an SW signal generating block 12. At the time of reproduction, the information signal is read at a detecting block 27, and a Y reproduction processing block 21 is controlled so that the optimum reproducing characteristic can be obtained. The optimum reproducing characteristic can be conveniently obtained always without giving any fault to the video signal and without making a user take the labor and the time.
