description PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain the subject resin, remarkably improved in heat resistance, thermal stability, etc., and having a low water absorptivity by reacting a specific imidated (meth)acrylic polymer with a specified chemical modifier. CONSTITUTION:An imidated (meth)acrylic polymer having recurring units of formulas I and II (R is H or methyl; R is H, alkyl or aryl) is made to react with a monoisocyanate compound (preferably methyl monoisocyanate, etc.). Thereby, the carboxyl group in the unit of formula I is allowed to react with the monoisocyanate compound to afford the objective resin. The imidated (meth) acrylic polymer is preferably obtained by copolymerizing (meth)acrylic acid and/or its derivative of formula III with other vinyl monomers copolymerizable therewith and then subjecting the polymeric main chain of the resultant (meth) acrylic polymer to imidating treatment according to a method for reacting the polymeric main chain with a primary organic amine and thereby forming the unit of formula II in the polymeric main chain.
