description PURPOSE:To reduce the rolling time for tandem rolling and to improve the rolling efficiency by rolling a rolling stock as it is accelerated at a stroke to the maximum speed when its tip passes between one mill and the following mill. CONSTITUTION:When the top end of the rolling stock 4 is bitten into a mill 1, the biting is detected by a load cell 5a in a load value and its signal is sent to a controller 7. The controller 7 is controlled by the input of its signal to elevate the numbers of rotation of motors 8a, 8b, 8c and accelerates the rolling speed at a stroke to the maximum speed. Then, until the tip of the rolled stock 4 approaches just before the mill, the rolling speed is decelerated down to a biting speed. When the top end of the rolling stock 4 is bitten into the mill 2, the rolling speed is accelerated to the maximum speed in the same way as in the mill 1, the speed continues to be maintained before the motors 8a-8c are reversed. Consequently, the rolling time when the top end of the rolling stock 4 passes between the mills can be reduced.
