CONSTITUTION:An air intake device for an engine is provided with a motor- operated regulating valve 12 to regulate a flow rate of intake air to an engine 1 through opening and closing of an intake air passage 9 and an initializing means 29 to effect initialization in the full closed position of the regulating valve 12, and the initializing means 29 is formed such that learning of the opening of the regulating valve 12 in the middle between full closing and full opening is effected. OFF operation of an ignition switch 27 is detected by a detecting means 30 and the initializing means 29 is operated by means of a control means 32. When the ignition key switch is turned ON in the middle of learning, initialization is stopped and the regulating valve 12 is returned to the starting position of the engine 1. This constitution prevents lowering of startability of the engine 1 owing to deficiency in an intake air amount and the occurrence of abnormal blow-bye of the number of revolutions owing to the increase thereof.
