Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To enhance the strength of filled section by filling a ceramic material consisting of ceramic particles of less than 0.5mu average particle diameter into a cell end of outer periphery of a monolithic carrier. CONSTITUTION:A monolithic carrier 1 is contained in a converter container 5, and a ceramic material 3 is filled into a cell 7a of an outer periphery 2, working as a retainer 6, out of a number of cells 7 extending independently of each other in the axial direction from an inlet end face 10 to an outlet end face 11. The ceramic material 3 employs ceramic particles of less than 0.5mu average particle diameter (for example, alumina powder) and prevents ceramic particles from lowering the interparticle bonding force of ceramic generated by abnormal crystal growth in the enduring process to enhance the strength of filled section.
