PURPOSE:To improve transmission characteristics and shorten a transmission time by holding parameters of a receiver, such as an AGC gain and an equalizer parameter, during high-speed modem signal reception and using them in the next high-speed modem signal reception. CONSTITUTION:When detecting a control signal (CFR, MCF) leaking in from a reception-side modulator 30 through a hybrid transformer 33 and the low-speed modem signal consisting of a control signal (MPS) from a transmission side hold are detected, a reception-side demodulator holds receiver parameters such as the AGC gain and equalizer parameter in a memory, and when a high-speed modem signal consisting of a picture signal (PIX) is detected, receiving operation is carried out to its end to hold the receiver parameters in the memory at the end of the reception. Those receiver parameters are used in the next high- speed modem signal reception. Consequently, the re-training time in high-speed modem signal reception is shortened.
