description PURPOSE:To properly feed a workpiece even if the feeding of the workpiece is changed from positive direction to negative direction, by a method wherein a controlling roller driven by a motor and moving the workpiece to the direction of drawing, is composed so as to be always held on the reverse side of a feed direction against the position of a needle locations. CONSTITUTION:A manipulator 10 has a motor 12 and an arm 13, which are mounted on a holder 11. At the top end part of the arm 13, a controlling roller 15 and a pulley 16 are pivotally supported by a rotary shaft 14. In addition, a timing belt 17 is extended between the motor 12 and the pulley 16, and thus the controlling roller 15 is allowed to rotate. In this case, four engaging pins R1 to R4 are projected on the undersurface of the holder 11. On the other hand, four engaged holes A1 to A4, B1 to B4 and C1 to C4, and two engaged holes D3, D4, each group of which is selectively engaged with these engaging pins R1 to R4, are perforated on a sewing machine head 2. When these engaging pins R1 to R4 are engaged with, for example, the second engaged hole group B, the controlling roller 15 is located on the reverse side of positive feeding direction against the position of a workpiece-pressing member 5.
