The filament is fed to tension rollers 8 and 9 and a tension is applied to the unstretched filament 10 between the tension rollers and a heating roller 11. The filament is subsequently stretched by 3 to 5 times between the heating roller 11 and a heat-stretching roller 12 and the heat-stretched filament 13 is successively sent to a cold roller 14. The filament is then wound by a winder 16 at >=3000m/min while 0.1 to 10% stretch percentage is applied to the filament 13 between the heat-stretching roller 12 and the cold roller 14. Thereby, the objective polyester monofilament for a screen gauze, excellent in dimensional stability can readily be produced with a remarkably improved productivity.
