description PURPOSE:To enable the measuring of distance between a plurality of ultrasonic vibrators and an object to be measured by arranging the plurality of ultrasonic vibrators, the one on the end side thereof used for transmission and the others for receiving. CONSTITUTION:An ultrasonic wave 26 transmitted from an ultrasonic vibrator 14 for transmission is reflected on an object 28 to be measured at the position as indicated with a solid line of a probe 10, and then is returned through almost the same path 26 as that in the transmission. At this point, the probe 10 already moves to the position of 10A as indicated by the broken line, and hence the vibrator 14 is located at the position of 14A as indicated with a broken line. As the ultrasonic vibrators 16 and 18 for receiving are also moved to the positions of 16A and 18A, the two vibrators 16 and 18 are not allowed to receive the reflected wave. But as ultrasonic vibrators 20 for receiving are moved to the position of the vibrator 14 where the vibrator 14 is located before moved, the reflected wave is received with the vibrator 20. This enables the measuring of the distance between the object 28 to be measured and the ultrasonic vibrator based on the reflected wave received.
