Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To conduct high-image quality printing by a halftone expression optimum for various input printing data. CONSTITUTION:Each pixel of printing data is inputted to a photographic pixel pattern conversion part 1, an upper edge pixel pattern conversion part 2, a lower edge pixel pattern conversion part 3, and an edge discriminating circuit 4. Each of the conversion parts 1, 2, 3 selects a corresponding pattern out of prestored halftone pixel patterns differing in component arrangement from each other and transmits it to a selection circuit 5. The edge discriminating circuit 4 judges the inputted pixel of printing data to be a photographic pixel, an upper edge pixel, or a lower edge pixel and transmits the judged result to the selection circuit 5. Based on the judged result, the selection circuit 5 selects a corresponding pattern out of the halftone pixel patterns from the conversion parts 1, 2, 3 and makes a printing part print the pattern.
