Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain the compact automatic welding head of an active metallic pipe capable of always obtaining high quality welding and being fitted even on a narrow place. CONSTITUTION:Fixed side half boxes 7a and 7c and opening/closing side half boxes 7b and 7d are disposed while extending over both sides in the pipe-axial direction of a welding torch 3 on the welding head 2 for a small bore diameter pipe, the opening/closing side half boxes 7b and 7d can be opened/closed by a hinge 9 and cover fastening plates 10a and 10b and a shielding box main body 5 provided with sintered metallic plates 11a-11d so as to form a shielding gas atmosphere around a weld zone while making inert gas flow at the time of welding is mounted on the inner side of these boxes 7a-7d and the pipe surface side.
