Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To miniaturize an apparatus and reduce its cost by equipping a deflection.means freely movable relative to a bin and by detecting the home position of stapling means and carrying means through a means for detecting the standby position of the deflection means. CONSTITUTION:A transfer paper delivered from the copying machine side by a deflection unit 10 is carried, while vertically moving e.g. along stages of a bin 26, and guided into the bin 26 set beforehand. Then, the transfer paper placed and accumulated on the bin 26 is bound by a staple unit 46. On the other hand, because the home position of the deflection unit 10 can be detected by an upper-limit detection sensor 51, said unit is returned to the home position and the next action is started after the return of the unit to the home position is confirmed when the deflection unit 10 hinders another action of the sorter- stapler or when it is necessary to make the starting point of an action clear. Also, when the staple unit 46 also hinders another action or when it is necessary to make the starting point of a stapling action clear, the staple unit 46 is required to be returned to its home position. The output of the upper-limit detection sensor 51 is used for the purpose of confirming the return of the staple unit to the home position.
