description PURPOSE:To provide a method and device for separating oil and water by application of emulsion wherein treating capacity can be increased while separation performance is rationally ensured. CONSTITUTION:When raw water is fed into a tank to treat it and dispersing agent is fed thereinto to agitate it so that oil is formed into emulsion, concentration of added dispersing agent and strength of agitation action are controlled to control the distribution of diameters of oil droplets. An oil-water separation device comprises a treatment tank of raw water, a means for controlling concentration of added dispersing agent, a means for agitating raw water and dispersing agent wherein agitating strength is variable, a means for adjusting pH of raw water and a filtration means for removing oil from the raw water which has been formed into emulsion by agitation. As a result, said device can be utilized, for example, in a nuclear power station for industrial waste water treatment.
