description | PURPOSE:To obtain connection of sufficient mechanical strength owing to low loss by using the same material as that of a hollow light wave guide for the material of a sleeve and connection fixing means. CONSTITUTION:A connecting sleeve 5 having inner diameter slightly larger than the outer diameter of hollow light wave guides 1 and 2 is formed by using the same material as the metal of the outer crust of the metallic hollow photoconductive light wave guides 1 and 2 built in a dielectric. Both ends 9 of the light wave guides 1 and 2 are butted to each other being inserted into the connecting sleeve 5 from both ends thereof, and then, on the outer periphery of the connecting part including the connecting sleeve 5, a metallic layer 7 made of the same material as the aforementioned material is formed so that it may have sufficient thickness by plating thereon. By this constitution, connection of sufficient mechanical strength owing to low loss of the light wave guides 1 and 2 becomes possible, which makes it easy to produce a long light wave guide. In this case, it is desirable to make the outer crust of a light wave guide and sleeve of nickel and to integrate the connecting part by nickel plating. |
